On the 7th – 11th March we held a public consultation and exhibition at St John’s Seminary giving you, the public, the opportunity to learn more about the development and tell us what you think.
If you were unable to attend this event, you can still view all of the information on this website and can provide your feedback using the Have your Say form.
St John’s Seminary is of huge historic significance.
The completion of one of the most important grade II listed buildings in the United Kingdom took place in 1896.
Due to falling student numbers the Catholic Church made the decision to close St John’s Seminary. Strutt & Park were instructed by the Trustees of St John’s Seminary in 2020 to conduct a marketing initiative which initial focused on finding an alternative educational operator/purchaser for the site. However, no viable purchaser was found for an educational led use who was able to acquire the Seminary and obtain the necessary funding to do so. St John’s Seminary was in continuous use for 126 years right up until December 2022 once the extensive winding down and formal deconsecration process had been completed, with the last remaining priests vacating the premises for the final time.
In 2022 St John’s seminary was purchased by the property company And Company who immediately began a detailed public consultation period with the local community.
